Cash vs. Vouchers: What to Take for Compensation

When an airline owes you money for a denied boarding or major delay, they will often try to push you toward a flight voucher. While this seems convenient, it is often a trap.
The Voucher Trap
ouchers frequently have expiration dates (usually 1 year), booking blackouts, and are often restricted to the original passenger. If you take cash compensation (which you are legally entitled to under EU261), you can use the money any way you choose.
Legal Right to Cash
If you qualify for compensation under EU261 rules, the airline must offer you cash compensation. Do not let them tell you otherwise!
